What experiences and knowledge do you have that would contribute to the company?
What advantages do you see in the company, and what could you help develop?
What responsibilities are you ready to take on?
There are several ways you can reach out to the company, such as: Virtual Career Days, calling, emailing, or via LinkedIn. Now there are fantastic opportunities to leave your CV at Virtual Career Days and network with employers and recruiters digitally in real time. 2. Your Digital Personality
“Out of sight, out of mind” might not be entirely true, but if you share your personality, you’ll shine through in the meeting! In a digital meeting, it can be hard to feel the energy, because you lose a significant part of your communication - namely, body language. That’s why it’s important in digital meetings to gesture with facial expressions and make eye contact. It makes the recipient feel that the meeting is more personal and lively.
Your voice and pace also play a significant role. To bring more emotion to a video call, vary your pace; certain words can have greater impact and weight if you choose to speak more slowly.
3. See Yourself as a Salesperson!
As a salesperson, there are several steps to achieving a successful outcome, and in an interview, I would encourage you to see yourself as a salesperson. You are meeting a customer - in this case, your dream job boss - and you are selling your service that they absolutely cannot do without. The first step is one of the most important steps, and that is to "tack." What does it mean to tack?
It means that you should tune into the recipient, feel the energy level, and appropriately open the conversation with an inviting talk. If you know what a DISC analysis is, then you have the tools to adjust the meeting based on how they like to be addressed. It’s about adapting the way you speak to fit the person you're talking to.
What could happen if you skip the tacking step is that you might come across as pushy or ignorant. Start tacking to have a successful meeting!
4. Digital Interview - Be Prepared
Before the video meeting starts, it’s a good idea to be online 10 minutes early. Sometimes the connection drops, or the computer suddenly needs to update. Make sure to minimize the risk of technical issues.
Do you have relevant material that you can show? Be prepared with that material to share the content. The employer will be impressed that you have nice material to present.
5. Be Interested
At the end of an interview, there will always be the counterquestion, “Do you have any questions?” Make sure to have questions ready at the end, as the final question you ask could be decisive in whether you get the job. Keep in mind that it’s better to be more interested than interesting. Companies love when you ask questions because it shows engagement and curiosity. You’ll leave a positive impression of the company by asking relevant and open questions.
Here are some open-ended prompts for the best conversation:
What
Who
How
When
Where
Why
