Get started with your digital networking

In line with digital development and the large media society we live in today, it is important to start digital networking in order to expand your network. This can benefit you in getting closer to professionals and increasing the chances of working in the field you dream of. To enter this digital world, there are several aspects that will help you get started.

Explore your social media

The first step to starting your digital networking is to explore your social media. The social media platforms we use daily are for many people a good way to network with individuals who might work remotely and whom you likely wouldn’t meet otherwise. A tip is to join different groups within the industry you're interested in, where you can chat with interesting people. Another tip is to participate in digital fairs and recruitment events where you, without having to go anywhere, get the chance to network, talk, and chat with various employers.

Take the initiative to interact

Something important when networking on digital platforms is to be the one who takes the initiative to interact. Ask insightful questions that will spark the interest of the person you're speaking with, or why not come up with exciting conversation topics in advance? When you show interest, the person you're talking to will sense it and will likely respond in kind.

Connect with classmates

A great tip for students is to take the opportunity to connect with your classmates during your studies. Through them, you will be able to get in touch with even more people in the future within the same industry via their network. You should both think about being social and proactive during digital meetings with your classmates, as well as using platforms like LinkedIn or Facebook. Make sure to build many relationships!

Maintain your contacts

Once you've made all these contacts, it’s important to maintain and preserve them as well. You achieve this by keeping in touch and showing that you still consider them valuable. For instance, you could send messages checking in on the person and their career, or share articles and features you think they might be interested in. If the network you've built isn't maintained, there’s no point in creating it, making this point one of the most important.
